Falling | Alexander Cheves | Essays

Forthcoming in Fall 2026: In this fearless and lyrical follow-up to his bestselling My Love Is a Beast: Confessions, Alexander Cheves charts a course through the landscapes of desire, belonging, and self-discovery. From a conservative Southern farm to the pulsing nightlife of Berlin, from New York’s crucible of ambition to quiet moments on a family vacation in Ireland, Cheves examines what it means to craft an authentic life at the margins of conventional society.

Falling is both an intimate personal narrative and a bold exploration of contemporary gay culture, confronting what is so often lost in the crowd: the haunting specter of depression and hidden mental health struggles. His stories are ones of survival and joy — of finding beauty in unexpected places and building chosen families across continents.

Summary

In this fearless and lyrical follow-up to his bestselling My Love Is a Beast: Confessions, Alexander Cheves charts a course through the landscapes of desire, belonging, and self-discovery.

With striking honesty and remarkable tenderness, Cheves navigates the complexities of family relationships, the shadow of mortality, and the search for connection in an increasingly fractured world. Whether describing tender moments with lovers or confronting the raw realities of addiction and loss, his voice remains clear and compassionate.

His stories are ones of survival and joy — of finding beauty in unexpected places and building chosen families across continents. Cheves reminds us that sometimes the bravest act is simply allowing ourselves to be seen, in all our complexity and contradiction. Falling is a testament to the power of living life on one’s own terms and to Cheves’ essential, inimitable voice.
